Bri Stevens

Counselling and Relationships therapist

Hi, I’m Bri (they/them). I’m a queer, neurodivergent therapist and co-director of Reravel. I’ve been practising as a social worker since 2004, and my practice is built around the communities I belong to: queer, trans, neurodivergent, and disabled people, as well as their partners, families, carers, and chosen families.

If you’re here, you’re probably trying to work out whether I’m the right fit for you. Please take some time reading my bio and you are welcome to reach out to me if you have further questions.

Bri Stevens Accredited Mental Health Social Worker Relationships Therapist

Specialist support for LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent, and disabled communities

I have experience over more than 20 years, working with people from childhood through to later life, and from all walks of life, so I am comfortable and experienced working with children, young adults and older people. I love working in relationships – with young families, chosen family and intimate relationships, and I’m currently researching care experiences in (neuro)queered intimacies.

I work with people who have known who they are forever, and those who are just beginning to ask the questions. I support people navigating life hurdles like friendship and relationship difficulties, burnout, and loss, and as well as things more specific to our communities, like late-in-life diagnosis, gender exploration, or building non-traditional relationships. I specialise in work at the intersections of neurodivergence, queerness, chronic illness, and disability and so discrimination and trauma (healthcare, religious and family trauma) are large parts of my work.

How I work

Neurodivergent Queer Therapist Bri Stevens

When we first meet, I’ll ask what you want from therapy and how you want me to support you. We’ll plan from there, together.

You are the expert on your own life. My role is to listen carefully, offer insights where they’re useful, and help you draw on your own strengths, values and experience. I work in a person-centred and systemic way — meaning I pay attention to the people, relationships and systems around you, not only what’s happening inside you. Your context matters.

I’m also honest about the fact that therapy isn’t the whole answer. Connection, collective action, and mutual care often matters as much as insight, so I’ll often work with you to build your community, and suggest resources, peer networks or community groups where that might be helpful.

I use trauma-informed, queer, and neurodiversity-affirming frameworks, and I try every day to decolonise therapy alongside the people I work with. I also believe in being transparent about my methods; we’ll talk about what’s working and what approaches I’m drawing from as we go.

My Background

Before founding Reravel, I worked across homelessness services, refugee support, and family programs — experience that shapes how I think about the systems and pressures people navigate, not just what’s happening in the therapy room.

I co-founded Reravel in 2021 because I wanted to build a practice grounded in the communities I belong to.

Learning is a constant for me. I have Bachelors of Social Work and Biomedical Science, and I hold a Master of Counselling Social Work. I am currently a PhD candidate at UNSW, researching how care is practiced within neurodivergent queer relationships.

Much of what I know about therapy was learned alongside community, not just from a textbook. Over the years, I’ve started and supported collectives for rainbow families, parents of trans youth, and autistic families (and I’ve spoken at the United Nations regarding the human rights of autistic children.)

Outside of work

Bri Stevens AMHSW Social Worker Therapist Counsellor

I’m a parent and a carer. I’m a fan of queer culture, sci-fi and romance, endless cups of tea, and hanging out with my pets. My happy place is driving or sitting somewhere and seeing the horizon stretch out infront of me, especially in outback Australia.

I have always loved hearing about other people’s passions, special interests and adventures. So please tell me all about your pets, the OG creations, art and stories you’re making, and the places you live to visit (irl and fictional!)
