Julie (she/her)
Occupational Therapist · Director, Reravel
Hi, I’m Julie. I’m an Occupational Therapist and co-director of Reravel. I’ve been working in the disability sector since 2004, and qualified as an OT in 2006 — so I’ve spent close to two decades inside the NDIS, insurance schemes, community OT, and working with people living with psychosocial and physical disabilities.
If you’re here, you’re probably trying to work out whether I’m the right fit — for yourself, a family member, or a participant you’re supporting. I hope this page helps.
Who I work with
I work with adults and young people 14+ living with physical and psychosocial disability, chronic illness, neurodivergence, and the ongoing impact of complex health conditions and adverse experiences. Many of the people I work with are queer, trans, gender diverse, and/or neurodivergent. That’s a genuine area of practice for me, not an add-on — I’m queer and neurodivergent myself, and I parent and care for people in these communities.
How I work
When we first meet, I’ll talk to you about what you need and how I can support you. Sometimes what I offer might challenge what you thought OT would be — expect it to look different from what you imagined.
I describe what I do as pragmatic OT. I bring clinical knowledge and lived experience to the table, and work with you on what will make the biggest difference in your day-to-day. That means practical, skills-based help and honest advice, shaped by what I know professionally and what I know from being in these communities.
I practise from neurodiversity-affirming, gender-affirming, and person-centred frameworks. In practice that means I don’t pathologise difference, I don’t assume a neurotypical baseline, and I take your goals, sensory profile, and context as the starting point.
I also try to keep assessments as brief as the report allows, and as respectful as any conversation should be. I know how exhausting it is to keep telling new clinicians your story from scratch
My Background
About me
Bri and I established Reravel in 2021, after nearly two decades each working across the disability sector. Before Reravel, we ran an allied health practice together, working with insurers (including CTP, WorkCover Qld and others) and injured people for nearly a decade. I have worked across community disability services, and lectured at different Queensland universities. That mix shapes how I work. I know what different systems need, and I know how to write for them.
Outside of work
I’m a gay woman and a parent of some awesome kids who are bending the norms of society (which I love). I’m a homeschooling parent and being involved working with young people has always been part of my life outside the clinic. I was an outdoor education leader in my early 20s and have worked in a USA Summer camp. I continue to actively volunteer in youth community groups and at Reravel I’m one of the practitioners behind Wands & Warriors, our peer-led D&D group for neurodivergent teens. I’m a lifetime gamer (often with my kids) and a Lego builder. I love travel, DIY, my chosen family and my ‘fluffball’ dogs.
