Art therapy in North Lakes for children, young people, families and adults

Creative therapy, in person at North Lakes.

Art therapy provides a creative vehicle for exploring feelings, improving self-awareness and reducing anxiety. At Reravel, art therapy supports people across the lifespan — from parents and their little ones, through childhood and the teenage years, to adults living with neurodivergence and disability.

An art therapy session looks and feels different from an art class. Together, you use a combination of art materials to explore feelings and emotions in a supportive environment, moving at your own pace and creating in ways that feel safe for you. No artistic skills or experience needed — just curiosity.

  • Across the lifespan: sessions for parents and bubs, children, tweens and teens, families, and adults with neurodivergence and disability.
  • Delivered by a registered creative arts therapist (AThR) with ANZACATA.
  • Neurodiversity-affirming, warmly welcoming First Nations families and LGBTQIA+ community members.

Art therapy sessions are in person at our North Lakes rooms, and can be funded privately or through the NDIS for self-managed and plan-managed participants. You can book online without a referral.

Parents and bubs

Sessions for parents and bubs are for parents and their little ones together. They’re a gentle, creative space to slow down, create freely and find a little calm. Your art therapist offers a calm presence while you and your baby explore art materials in ways that feel safe and easy.

Children

Art therapy gives children a creative way to communicate, explore and process difficult emotions – especially the ones that are hard to put into words. Sessions look and feel different from an art class: together, your child and their art therapist use a combination of art materials to explore feelings in a colourful, supportive environment, with the therapist offering encouragement, structure and a calm presence.

Parents and carers are part of the work — see how we work with families below.

Tweens and teens

For tweens and teens, art therapy can be a way to explore change and big life transitions through creativity, curiosity and reflection — often with less talking and more creating. Each young person is invited to move at their own pace, follow their curiosity, and create in ways that feel safe for them. Their art therapist walks alongside them, offering encouragement, structure and a calm presence.

Adults with neurodivergence and disability

Art therapy at Reravel is also for adults living with neurodivergence and disability. Art therapy offers a space to slow down, create freely and find calm; to explore and express feelings that are difficult to talk about; and to discover new ways to make sense of experiences. You don’t need any artistic skill — just curiosity. Each person moves at their own pace and creates in ways that feel safe for them.

NDIS participants and families

We welcome NDIS participants who are self-managed or plan-managed, and work alongside families. We warmly welcome First Nations families and LGBTQIA+ community members, honouring culture, identity and lived experience.

When we support children and young people at Reravel, we don’t just see them for a session and send them back to their families and regular lives — we know that friends, families, activities and schools are really important for children and teens. We don’t do drop-off therapy with kids. Depending on your child’s age, we might work with you as parents through joint sessions, separate parent sessions, or scheduled family check-ins. For older teens, we’ll talk together at the outset about how we’ll stay connected with parents, school or other supports.

Art therapy sessions are private fee-paying, or can be funded through the NDIS for self-managed and plan-managed participants. Medicare rebates don’t apply to art therapy. You’ll find the details on our fees page.

What a session looks like

An art therapy session is a wholesome creative process for exploring and expressing feelings that are difficult to talk about. It looks and feels different from an art class. Together, you and your art therapist use a combination of art materials to explore feelings and emotions in a colourful, supportive environment — sometimes colourful, sometimes messy, sometimes quiet. Each person is invited to move at their own pace, follow their curiosity, and create in ways that feel safe for them. Your therapist’s role is to walk alongside you or your child, offering encouragement, structure and a calm presence. No artistic skills or experience are needed — just curiosity.
