Counselling in North Lakes, and by telehealth across Australia
If you’re looking for a counsellor in North Lakes or on Brisbane’s northside, we’d love to help. Counselling at Reravel is a calm, supportive space to talk through whatever you’re carrying, whether that’s stress and burnout, relationships and family, grief, trauma or big life changes, and to take the time to ‘reravel’ it all with an experienced therapist. We see adults, young people aged 13 and over, and parents and carers, in our rooms in North Lakes and by telehealth anywhere in Australia. Every one of our clinicians holds a Masters qualification, and we work in an affirming way with everyone who comes through our door, whoever you are and however you identify.
North Lakes, QLD, and by telehealth Australia-wide.
NDIS, private health funds, WorkCover QLD and other schemes. Medicare rebates with our Accredited Mental Health Social Workers and psychologists.

You can book your first session online whenever it suits you. If you’d rather talk with someone first, call us on (07) 3472 4000 and we’ll help you find the right fit.
Who we support
We see adults who’d like a steady, kind space to think things through; young people aged 13 and over, with their parents and carers involved in a way that suits their age; and parents and carers who’d like some support of their own. You’ll find more about each of these just below.

Counselling for adults
Reravel’s adult counselling is for people navigating burnout or relationship stress, figuring out identity or gender, processing trauma, moving through a life transition, coming to terms with a late diagnosis, or simply feeling stuck. If you’re an LGBTQ+ or neurodivergent adult, we specialise in queer, trans and neurodivergent-affirming counselling.
Your first session is 50 minutes, and it’s mostly about getting to know you and what’s important to you, from pets and loved ones to identity, culture and the things you’re passionate about. Together we’ll work out what you’d like to focus on (and it’s okay if you’re not sure yet), how you like to communicate and receive support, and, if you’ve had counselling before, what worked and what really didn’t.
After that, sessions are built around the goals we agree together, and the things you’d rather not talk about yet can wait. You choose whether we contact you by text, email or phone, and sessions can be longer, use AAC or other communication supports, or include a support person. We check in with you regularly about how it’s going and adjust as we go, sometimes using formal measures (for example, for NDIS or Medicare sessions).
Our practitioners hold Masters-level qualifications and have each spent well over a decade in this work: in community services, in mental health, and alongside people through some genuinely hard seasons. They are members of queer and neurodivergent community, and have lived full lives of their own, too. That means we have strong clinical skills (and we keep up to date with our professional development too!) and we’re counsellors who are able to respond with care and grace to all that you bring to therapy.
What adult counselling at Reravel covers
- Identity and discovery: late-identified autism and ADHD, gender identity, and sexuality
- Complex trauma: religious and family trauma, high-control environments, healthcare trauma, and discrimination
- Burnout and pacing: sustainable strategies for neurodivergent adults, carers, and people living with disability or chronic illness
- Relationships, grief and trauma: relationship difficulties, loss, and navigating trauma recovery
- Migration, racism and discrimination: the effects of resettlement, and of being on the receiving end of racism and exclusion
- Support for practitioners: the particular pressures on health and allied health professionals, including those who are queer, disabled or neurodivergent themselves
- Affirming care: dedicated therapeutic support for queer, trans, disabled and neurodivergent adults
Reravel also provides affirming relationship and partnership counselling tailored to the lived experiences of neurodivergent and queer people and specialising in care dynamics, communication rupture and repair cycles connected to rejection sensitivity or sensory overwhelm, gender and sexuality journeys, queerplatonic relationships, and ethical non-monogamy.
Therapy for young people aged 13 and over
Reravel offers counselling to young people aged 13 and over who are neurodivergent, queer, trans, or working out who they are in a world that is hard for them right now. Young people are seen in our rooms at North Lakes and by telehealth across Australia. We don’t see children under 13 individually; families with younger children are supported through family therapy and parent work instead.
If you’re the parent or carer of a trans, nonbinary or gender diverse teen, we are specialists in providing counselling for trans and gender diverse teenagers. If your teen is autistic, ADHD or neurodivergent in another way, we also offer counselling for autistic, ADHD and neurodivergent teenagers. Reravel also runs social groups for queer and neurodivergent teens at North Lakes.
Our counsellors have spent well over a decade in community and mental health settings, much of it alongside trans and gender diverse young people and neurodivergent people. Sessions run at the young person’s pace, through their interests and in their own communication style, and nobody is asked to perform or mask for another adult.
What young people bring to counselling at Reravel
- Identity and self-understanding: working out who they are, and building confidence and self-trust through the teenage years
- School, friendships and burnout: academic stress, school refusal, autistic burnout, social dynamics, and support for young people in alternative and home education
- Family relationships: communication with parents and carers, conflict at home, separation and divorce, and blended families
- Anxiety and social life: peer dynamics, loneliness, finding connection, and navigating social worlds that feel overwhelming or exclusionary
- Affirming care: a dedicated space for young people who are queer, trans, disabled or neurodivergent
How Reravel works with a young person’s family
With young people, parents and carers are part of the work in a way that suits the young person’s age. A young person’s world is shaped by their family, friendships, school and community, so the work usually reaches beyond the individual hour. Depending on the family, that can include:
- Joint sessions: facilitating honest conversations that bridge gaps in understanding
- Parent and carer support: a dedicated space for parents to learn how to support their neurodivergent or queer young person
- Referrals: connections to community and peer support groups that suit the young person or the family
- Systemic check-ins: staying connected with the people around the young person so everyone is moving toward the same goals
A note on privacy: for older teenagers and young adults living at home, we talk with everyone at the outset about how privacy will be handled. This looks different in every family, so the arrangement is agreed together, with enough privacy for the young person to do real therapeutic work while keeping them supported by the people around them.
Support for parents
Reravel’s counsellors can be there for parents who would like some support of their own. You might be parenting a disabled or neurodivergent child and doing an enormous amount of thinking, translating and advocating in a world that isn’t set up for them. You might be parenting a gender diverse child in a time when the world seems to be against them, and you are working through your own fears and worries. You might be working out how to parent in a way that fits your child, rather than the way you were parented yourself. We also often work with the parents of the children and young people we are seeing, so that what happens in our sessions can carry into life at home.
How parenting support at Reravel works
Parent and carer support: a dedicated space for parents and carers to process what they are carrying, build confidence in their own knowledge of their child, and develop approaches that fit their actual household rather than a generic checklist.
Navigating systems: support to understand and respond to the NDIS, health services and schools, so families can advocate from a more grounded place.
Linking in: connecting families with community resources, peer support and other services, including our own occupational therapy and group programs.
Funding and rebates for counselling at Reravel
Medicare. Whether a Medicare rebate applies depends on who you see. Sessions with our Accredited Mental Health Social Workers and psychologists attract a rebate when you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP. Sessions with our counsellors, including Kelli, don’t attract a Medicare rebate.
NDIS. Reravel is a registered NDIS provider and works with self-managed, plan-managed and NDIA-managed participants. Counselling is funded through capacity building supports, and whether it fits a particular plan depends on that plan’s goals and the participant’s disability support needs.
Private health funds. Some private health funds pay a rebate towards counselling. Cover varies between funds and between policies, so check with your own fund before booking rather than assuming.
EAP and other schemes. We also see people through EAP programs, WorkCover Queensland, Victims Assist and other compensation and support schemes.
Private clients. We also see private fee-paying clients, and you don’t need a GP referral to book. Current fees are on our fees page.
Who delivers counselling at Reravel

Individual counselling at Reravel is with Kelli Charles (she/her), our Senior Counsellor, and Bri Stevens, one of our Directors and an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker. Kelli is a queer counsellor with more than 15 years’ experience across community and mental health settings, much of it alongside trans and gender-diverse young people, neurodivergent people, and people making sense of how their histories and social location shape their bodies, relationships and choices.
Kelli works collaboratively and at the client’s pace, drawing on trauma-informed, queer-affirming, intersectional and anti-oppressive practice, and is transparent about the approaches she is using as the work goes on. Sessions with Kelli are funded privately, through the NDIS, private health or other schemes, and don’t attract a Medicare rebate.
Bri works with autistic, trans and neuroqueer adults, people working through religious trauma, and people working on their relationships, on their own or together through relationships therapy with Bri. Sessions with Bri attract a Medicare rebate with a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP. When you book, you’ll see who has availability.
Counselling questions people ask Reravel
Do I need a referral to see a counsellor at Reravel?
You can book counselling at Reravel and pay privately without a referral. A referral matters only for the Medicare rebate: to claim that, you need a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, and sessions need to be with an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker or psychologist. For occupational therapy the rebate runs under a Chronic Condition Management plan from your GP instead. Contact us first if you want to check what applies to your situation.
How old does a young person have to be to see a counsellor at Reravel?
Reravel works individually with young people aged 13 and over. For families with children under 13, support happens through parent and carer sessions rather than individual therapy with the child. We can also point families toward art therapy, which is available from early childhood, where that is a better fit for a younger child.
Can I have counselling by telehealth?
Yes. Reravel offers counselling by telehealth to clients anywhere in Australia, alongside in-room appointments at Suite 2A, 2–4 Flinders Parade, North Lakes, Queensland. Telehealth suits clients outside South East Queensland, people for whom travel is costly or exhausting, and young people who find a familiar room easier than a clinic.
Will my counsellor understand neurodivergence and gender without me explaining it?
That is the premise Reravel is built on. We’re a neuroqueer-centred practice and our practitioners are queer, neurodivergent and disabled people themselves. Clients do not need to teach their counsellor what autistic burnout is, what a late ADHD identification does to a person’s history, or what it costs to be misgendered in a waiting room.
Can parents get support without their child coming to sessions?
Yes. Parent and carer support at Reravel is a service in its own right, not an add-on to a child’s therapy. Parents use these sessions to process what they are carrying, build confidence in their own knowledge of their child, and work out approaches that fit their household. For a lot of families this is where the work starts.
If your question isn’t here, you might find the answer on our frequently asked questions page.
