Kelli (she/her)
Senior Counsellor · Reravel

Hi, I’m Kelli (she/her). I’m a queer counsellor with more than 15 years’ experience working in community and mental health settings. A lot of my work has been alongside trans and gender diverse young people, neurodivergent people, and others who are trying to understand how their histories and social location shape their bodies, relationships, and choices.

After ten years in Tasmania, I’m now back in Brisbane, and excited to be joining the Reravel team!

Senior Counsellor Kelli Charles

Kelli is a PACFA clinical registrant and sees adults and young people aged 13 and over, in person at North Lakes or by telehealth. Kelli also offers couples and relationship counselling. Kelli has appointments available now, and you can book online without a referral.

Sessions with Kelli can be funded through the NDIS (self-, plan- or NDIA-managed), paid privately, or claimed through some private health funds, depending on what your policy includes. Kelli also sees people through EAP programs, WorkCover Queensland, Victim Assist and similar schemes. Sessions with Kelli don’t attract a Medicare rebate, though sessions with our Accredited Mental Health Social Workers and psychologists do, with a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP. You’ll find the details on our fees page.

Who I work with

I work with people exploring gender and sexuality, navigating neurodivergence or disability, recovering from trauma, adapting to migration and resettlement, confronting racism and discrimination, experiencing relationship difficulties, grief, or the impacts of interpersonal violence. I also support people who feel overwhelmed, disconnected from their values, or stuck in patterns that no longer serve them.

I also work with couples and partners, approaching relationship work through a relational and narrative lens, with the understanding that problems live in the patterns between people rather than inside either of them. You can read more about couples and relationship counselling at Reravel.

How I work

When we meet, I’ll ask what you’re hoping for and what would make therapy feel useful and safe. I work collaboratively and at your pace: I listen closely, offer reflections when they help, and pay attention to the broader systems and relationships around you. I’m transparent about the approaches I draw from, and we’ll adjust things together as we go.

My practice is trauma-informed, queer-affirming, intersectional and committed to anti-oppressive work. Above all, I aim to create a space where you can show up as yourself, understand what’s happening in your life with more clarity and kindness, and move toward choices and relationships that feel more aligned with who you want to be.

I’m interested in the moments when people begin to question the stories, expectations, and systems that have shaped their lives, and explore ways of living that feel more authentic, compassionate, and aligned with their values.

About me

People who know me describe me as steady, thoughtful, curious and values-driven. What I’ve loved most about my counselling and community work so far is the opportunities I’ve had to connect deeply with people, witness the courage that accompanies vulnerability, and support them to develop greater self-compassion, kindness, and care for themselves. I’ve experienced my own seasons of burnout, especially when I felt pressured to act against what mattered to me, and I’ve spent a lot of time learning how to keep my values at the centre of my decisions. I also recognise the privilege I hold as a white, cisgendered settler on Aboriginal land, and I work to stay accountable to that in and out of the therapy room. These experiences shape how I show up: with curiosity, care, and a commitment to helping people reconnect with what feels true for them.

Outside of work

Outside of work I have many seasonal joys and interests! I love to read, to ride, to hike and to connect with nature – lately I’m particularly into knowing details about all the birds and plants and fungi I encounter. I love playing tennis and board games, and I relish any opportunity to dance, especially in community art or dance projects. I have a lush camping set up, and am excited to explore places in and around Brisbane that I didn’t get to last time I lived here!
